Helsinki
So the ferry from Stockholm was pretty uneventful but great to see the Swedish archipelago. Found the Heslinki hostel very easily. It was like being back in Ranmoor! Good room, with friendly but crazy / amusing finnish chap. Liked the city alot, and enjoyed the midsummer festivities on the beach. The Modern Art had an excellent exhibition on Marji Isola and here textiles. Left very under-awed by the cathedrals, which seemed over hyped. Took a trip to the zoo and a day trip to Tallinn after Rob arrived. Then onto to St Petersburg by train.

Inside the Lutheran Cathedral. This was easily much more pleasant than the Orthodox one. Beautiful white building which looked amazing in some dark storm clouds.
Up a tower at the wet Helsinki Zoo. The Asia and Amazonia sections were great but the weather put off most of the outside animals from making an appearance.
A really beuatiful metallic structure, commemorating Sibelius, the Finnish Composer. I had time to myself there one Sunday morning, in the warmth of the sun.
An overview of the main section of the Sibelius Monument.
Sky and metal.
Looking up through the monument.
Not shown : The small but fantastic botanical garden greenhouses. Finnish Design - building architecture is very simple and clean here, but Sweden has the edge on day to day life design. Sveaborg sea fortress.. These are still on a camera somewhere.
Found within a "Folk Art" exhibition near the Finlandia concert hall.
Fisheye view.
